So the Dude from the Big Lebowski was based on a real person! He's really not as interesting as you would think (I know, boo). But give it a watch anyway, to see the real life Dude awkwardly stumble through his very unusual variety of fame.

2000 - Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker were famous televangelists in the 1980s. She became addicted to prescription drugs, he quite un-Christianly philandered a lady and swindled his Church's followers. Tammy is sympathetic, desperatley lonely, and a woman driven to succed in an industry that's left her behind. Nevertheless, she lived a portion of her life in the tabloids, and dirty drama among churchy Christians is the real reason to watch.

2006 - The Pixies broke up due to irreconcilable differences in 1992, and LoudQUIETloud is the story of the band's 2004 reunion tour. It's a rock documentary, but the story is one of a dysfunctional family, full of depression, one notable weirdo, addiction, and unassuaged resentment. How can they make such killer music when they can barely hold together their relationships with one another?
In one memorable scene, a teenage girl gives bassist Kim Deal her favorite book, a youth novel based on The Pixies. Deal detachedly flips through the book on the tour bus, as though she is still, still processing both her fame and the band's influence.

1997 - If you're ever in the mood for someone to treat you like shit, watch this film. Nick Broomfield investigates the murder conspiracy theories around Kurt Cobain's suicide. The film is a compelling murder mystery, a story of serious family dysfunction, and what happens when you get famous. There is an amazing moment when Broomfield asks Kurt's best friend a difficult question, as he hesitates to respond a car alarm goes off in background. The moment would have been contrived in fiction, but it's chilling in the documentary.
